Artist’s Statement I was in New Orleans in May 2005 for a medical conference. I decided to come 3 days early and visit New Orleans. I stayed at a Hotel on Canal Street. Of course, I visited a quilt shop where I bought the mask fabric. I took the old trolley and rode it from beginning to end. I visited the bayou. I was to the French Quarters everyday. I saw wonderful, creative art at a special exhibit at the New Orleans museum of art. The green is for the incredible green landscape I saw when I took a Cajun boat on the bayou. The masks expressed the gaudiness I saw as I visited the French quarter every day. When I saw the incredible destruction that the hurricane Katrina wrought, I created the quilts with the fabric, the masks I had bought during my trip in New Orleans. I hope New Orleans recovers. My prayers go to the people of New Orleans who have suffered incredible losses.
