2005
I made this quilt in honor of my mother and was inspired by Erzulie Dantor, a Petwo Divinity from the Haitian Vodou pantheon. She is the Goddess (Loa) of love and motherhood. She is a hardworking and fiercely protective mother.
My mother is a widow who raised 4 young children by herself in Haiti. I remember how fiercely she protected us and raised 3 feminist daughters despite living in a very patriarchal society. When I came to the US for college, her encouragements ensure my successes.
